Psalm 56

Leader: Be gracious to me, O God. O Most High, when I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

People: I praise God and His Word. In God I trust. I am not afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Leader: You have kept count of my tossings. You have put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your record?

People: In the day when I call upon the Lord, my enemies will retreat. This I know; God is with me.

Leader: My vows to you I must perform, O God. I will render thank offerings to you.

People: For you have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from falling, so that I may walk before God in the light of life.

Lord Jesus, my trust in You does not always prevent me from being afraid of both known and unknown enemies, of what may or may not happen in the future. However, when I am afraid, I do trust in You and depend on You and Your promises. You have never failed me or any who call upon You in times of trouble. In You, I find life and light and receive Your gracious gift of life eternal. Help me to express my faith, love, and thanks to You by keeping the promises and vows that I have made. And now I pray: “Our Father. . .”
