Some Glorious Results of Bible Study — Colossians 3

As Christians, we have taken off our old self and have put on the new self. We have changed our purpose of life from living for self to living for our Lord Jesus Christ. We have put off serving sin to serving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We have done all this and more by the grace of Jesus Christ through faith in Jesus Christ. Now, as Christians, Jesus Christ prays for us from heaven and the Holy Spirit prays for us while living within us as our Helper and Guide. Jesus Christ has truly made us new creatures in Christ Jesus! How do we know these truths and many others? From our study of the Bible. How do we become more like Jesus Christ daily? From our study of the Bible.

One glorious result of our Bible study is we increase our knowledge of God and His Word. Jesus intended for our Bible study to be one of the means for God and us to renew of our new self. Our new self needs daily renewal, if not more often during intense trials and temptations. Jesus intended for us to renew our new self through increasing our knowledge of Jesus and His purposes for us through regular Bible study.

Another glorious result of Bible study is we become more like our Creator. When we read the Bible, we think God’s thoughts after Him and we become more like God. When we study the Bible, we pray for the Holy Spirit to renew of our inner and outer selves through the truth of God’s Word; then, we pray that we will do more and more things as Jesus would do them if He were here. We can represent Christ more faithfully as we prayerfully study the Bible and the Holy Spirit helps us live more like Jesus.

Let us think, study the Bible, and pray that we will become a better image of our Creator for others to see, that they might be drawn to God in Christ and to the study of God’s Word. Let us persevere in Bible study even when we are suffering various trials and let us rejoice in the promised result: “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:4). Someday, we will be “conformed to the image of God’s Son” (Romans 8:29). We know these glorious truths from our study of the Bible, and as we study the Bible we will learn many more!

Before we begin a new study of Genesis in September, invite others to study the Bible with you personally or invite them to your Bible study group or Sunday school class. Maybe sharing with them some of the glorious results of Bible study will encourage them to begin or continue their regular Bible study.
