Thoughts and Questions on Acts 4

edited September 2015 in General Discussion
Peter and John were arrested, tried, threatened, and told to stop preaching about Jesus; then the church prayed and they were empowered and emboldened by the Holy Spirit to keep preaching about Jesus. Stephen was arrested and tried; then when making his defense an enraged crown stoned him to death. Saul was threatened with death, and he was saved when the believers lowered him over the city wall in a basket. The proverbs teach this lesson twice: “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty” — “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty” (Proverbs 22:3; 27:12). God advised through the prophet Amos: “For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil” (Amos 5:12-13).

How do believers know when to keep speaking, when to flee and take refuge, and when to keep silent?

Please pray for all who are persecuted and in prison around the world because they have expressed their Christian faith and the authorities have disapproved. Please pray for the authorities who are ruling unjustly and disregarding the will and express law of God as revealed in the Bible.
